CAUSES
The heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne (Franz Ferdinand) was killed in a terrorist bombing in Serbia, Gavrilo Princip, a member of the terrorist group Black Hand-
John Hobson in his book "Imperialism" predicted that the struggle for new markets would lead to a global war. (Ambition)
The public, the media, all the aristocrats believed that a war would solve some dilemmas in Europe. Patriotism was the zeitgeist.

ENGLAND - POWER
Ship crew of 400,000, 200,000 were British.
England and Germany vied for supremacy at sea.
CONFLICT
Germany encouraged Austria-Hungary to declare war on Serbia
Austro-Hungary attacks Serbia
Russia will defend Serbia
Germany supports the Austro-Hungarian attacks and Belgium and France
England defend Belgium and France because of a Treaty
Portugal has prepared 200,000 troops - 10,000 died
The African colonies came into the fight:

Samoa - New Zealand - New Guinea
Japan - China
BRAZIL
Three Brazilian ships were attacked:
The Paraná
The Tijuca
The Macao
The Brazil reacts and perceives 42 German ships in Brazilian ports by way of compensation
26/10/1917 Chairman Wenceslas Bras declares war on Germany
In 1918 Brazil sends aviators, naval and army medical corps.

RESULTS:
19 million dead
France and England manage vast territories
Becomes the Ottoman Empire in Turkey
Armenian genocide by Ottoman Christian suffers, one million died in concentration camps
CURIOSITY
At the beginning of the war, enemy soldiers stopped the war to celebrate Christmas, then returned to the trenches.
